Although the weather forecasts on most media were very pessimistic, the Met Office remained upbeat for the walk and they proved to be correct.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>One member turned up in his shorts<\/div>\n<div class=\"plain_line\">and two ladies were soon in T shirts,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4218 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Dalton2-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"431\" height=\"243\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Dalton2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Dalton2.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 431px) 100vw, 431px\" \/><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>the rest of the party taking off layers\u00a0and complaining of the heat.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"plain_line\">The going was fairly tough at times as our farmer host had decided to plough and cultivate most of cross field footpaths!!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"plain_line\">However, the group cheerfully negotiated all that was placed in front <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4219 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Hamerton_Church.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"431\" height=\"289\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"plain_line\">of them, including one ploughed section that was deemed as \u201cgood training \u201c<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"plain_line\">This is a walk that will hopefully be repeated but a Spring date may well suit the terrain more favourably.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>And in case you are interested in some more background Hamerton, is a village close to the wonderfully named Steeple Gidding.<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure class=\"mw-default-size\"><a class=\"mw-file-description\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Thatched_Cottage,_Hamerton_-_geograph.org.uk_-_759731.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mw-file-element alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/2\/2c\/Thatched_Cottage%2C_Hamerton_-_geograph.org.uk_-_759731.jpg\/220px-Thatched_Cottage%2C_Hamerton_-_geograph.org.uk_-_759731.jpg\" srcset=\"\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/2\/2c\/Thatched_Cottage%2C_Hamerton_-_geograph.org.uk_-_759731.jpg\/330px-Thatched_Cottage%2C_Hamerton_-_geograph.org.uk_-_759731.jpg 1.5x, \/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/2\/2c\/Thatched_Cottage%2C_Hamerton_-_geograph.org.uk_-_759731.jpg\/440px-Thatched_Cottage%2C_Hamerton_-_geograph.org.uk_-_759731.jpg 2x\" width=\"410\" height=\"307\" data-file-width=\"640\" data-file-height=\"480\" \/><\/a><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Hamerton apparently does not have a\u00a0parish council as on April Fools Day 2010 the parish of Hamerton was abolished to form &#8220;Hamerton and Steeple Gidding&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>As will be seen from this final picture, this is an area in which thatched cottages abound!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; By Tony Dalton Sometimes walks are so fearsome and trecherous that only the bravest of the brave dare take them!
