also known as &#8220;The Tree of Rebirth and Healing&#8221;.\u00a0 For here we are on the very edge of fabled Lincolnshire!!!<\/p>\n<p>Indeed to come into contact with the tree means regeneration or rebirth and indeed much has been the commentary since, on how several of our more venerable members are indeed now seemingly getting younger and younger by the day.\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4121 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King3-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"484\" height=\"363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King3-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King3-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King3-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King3-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 484px) 100vw, 484px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In fact it is rumoured that it will not be long before several of our most venerated members will have to leave Peterborough Ramblers on the ground that they are not old enough to continue.<\/p>\n<p>Now of course we all know that things are different elsewhere.\u00a0 For in darkest Hampshire, magic rituals still take place where a naked child was passed through the split trunk of an ash tree as a cure for broken or weak limbs.<\/p>\n<p>It was said that if the parts stayed together the child was <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4122 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King4-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"483\" height=\"644\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King4-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King4-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King4-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King4-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King4-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 483px) 100vw, 483px\" \/>cured, but if the gap remained, the ritual would not be effective.\u00a0 However this process was outlawed by the Council last year, much to the applause of right-minded people, but even so on this walk signs were seen of the process still being undertaken.\u00a0 For here we not only see a ladder used for climbing up a tree but also above it a rocket launcher ready to dissuade those attempting to walk this way without the permission of our Glorious Leader and the appropriate sub-committee.<\/p>\n<p>But this modern technology reminded us all of what was to come and beyond indeed it was found.\u00a0 Here we see the remains of a nuclear bunker from before the first Cambridgeshire insurrection of which it has most often been said.<\/p>\n<p>It is indeed most wonderous that we can not only delve into our region&#8217;s ancient history in terms of the<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4123 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King5-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"481\" height=\"361\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King5-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King5-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King5-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King5-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/King5-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 481px) 100vw, 481px\" \/> ways in which the ancient inhabitants of this fabled land would build walls in the middle of nowhere for absolutely no purpose whatsoever save to tell the trees that it is humankind who now controls the land and not the ancient woodlands.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed we see here the pointlessness of the feud, and it rekindles one&#8217;s thoughts that if only the trees and the bricks could have settled their differences in the dim and distant, life would have been so much better.<\/p>\n<p>PS if reading this on your phone you can make the pictures bigger by placing two fingers on the picture and moving them apart.\u00a0 \u00a0I only just realised this and think it&#8217;s rather clever!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pictures from Jackie Markley.\u00a0 Undercover investigations and tree interrogations by Sir Hardly Anyone.
