which of course led me to wonder, &#8220;what is a prodigy house?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2925 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley2-300x187.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"433\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley2-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley2-1024x638.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley2-768x478.jpg 768w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley2-1536x957.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley2-2048x1276.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley2-200x125.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 433px) 100vw, 433px\" \/>Well, I can now tell you because I have just looked it up.\u00a0 Prodigy houses are apparently large and showy English country houses\u00a0built by courtiers and other wealthy families, either &#8220;noble palaces of an awesome scale&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>or &#8220;proud, ambitious heaps&#8221;\u00a0according to taste.<\/p>\n<p>I must say I rather like calling a house built by the toff an &#8220;ambitious heap&#8221; and I shall be using that in forthcoming descriptions of the land roundabout.<\/p>\n<p>The prodigy houses stretch over the periods of<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2927 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley4-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"301\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley4-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley4-1024x718.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley4-768x538.jpg 768w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley4-1536x1076.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley4-2048x1435.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/> Tudor,\u00a0Elizabethan, and\u00a0Jacobean architecture, and this is interesting because my uncle Jacko was an architect and he may have been involved.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway lots of these pads (as we urbanites call houses) were built with a view to housing Elizabeth I &amp; Co as they toured with the royal progress across the realm, although I understand quite a few of the locations were in fact burned down deliberately to stop the freeloaders turning up with their <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2928 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley5-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"431\" height=\"290\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley5-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley5-1024x690.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley5-768x517.jpg 768w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley5-1536x1034.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley5-2048x1379.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 431px) 100vw, 431px\" \/>large retinue as they made their annual royal progress around the realm.\u00a0 Again citing from the all-knowing Wiki, many are close to major roads and often in the Midlands.\u00a0 Thus here we are near the A1.<\/p>\n<p>Now of the rest of the pictures, I know little, although a) I was on the walk (but chatting about affairs of state) and b) I&#8217;m told the bird below is a kite.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2929 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley6-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"431\" height=\"290\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley6-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley6-1024x691.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley6-768x518.jpg 768w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley6-1536x1037.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/burghley6-2048x1382.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 431px) 100vw, 431px\" \/> And this of course is the problem for your correspondent, what with me being brought up in Tottenham.\u00a0 The right royal progress never came to N15, and if it had done I am sure the natives of the day would have had a word or two to say about the drainage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But what of Wothorpe Towers?&#8221;
