Barnack above left, is probably from around 1920, but is undated.<\/p>\n<p>The church is Anglo-Saxon in origin and is reported to have been started around 1000 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The village&#8217;s most famous son is perhaps Charles Kingsley, the author of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Water-Babies,_A_Fairy_Tale_for_a_Land_Baby\">The Water Babies<\/a>, who spent his childhood at The Rectory (now called Kingsley House).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2570 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/we-crossed-the-road.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"323\" height=\"242\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The walk started at the public footpath opposite the Church and followed the footpath between the cricket pavilion and the bowls club.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We crossed the road and followed the path along the southern boundary of Barnack Hills and Holes, then followed the stonewall boundary of Walcot Hall.<\/p>\n<p>The footpath carries on along the old Roman Road of Ermine Street crossing pasture land with lovely views.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2572 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/barnak2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"435\" height=\"580\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/barnak2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/barnak2.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 435px) 100vw, 435px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The walk then passes through Southorpe where we stopped for a coffee break.<\/p>\n<p>The walk passes under a road bridge that crosses the old disused Wansford to Stamford railway line.<\/p>\n<p>The picture below is another one from olden times which is unfortunately not dated but is said to be of the village railway station.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2579 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/barnack-rail2-300x201.jpg\" https:\/\/peterboroughramblers.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/barnack-rail2.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 353px) 100vw, 353px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you look closely you can see the remains of the platform of Ufford Bridge Station and below is a view of the station, and indeed here is a picture (below) of the Ufford Bridge station when it was active.<\/p>\n<p><img probably nobody else) was there at one time an Ufford station and an Ufford Bridge station?<\/p>\n<p>But back with the walk&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>We continued along the disused railway track and after a while, if you look to your left, you can see the back of Walcot Hall and the stables.<\/p>\n<p>The track continues along hedgerows and a copse and then returns back to the start of the
